Today’s Highlight 4.8.18

I realize that as a pastor I may have a different take-away from our gatherings … but it my estimation – one of the highlights from today was the scripture reading that used Romans and Galatians as a ‘call-and-response’.

I thought it would nice to post it here so that you can return it this week as needed.

Scripture:  Romans 8:10-17, Galatians 4:1-7

R: But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

G: So then, sisters and brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live

R: If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

G: My point is this: heirs, as long as they are minors, are no better than slaves, though they are the owners of all the property; but they remain under guardians and trustees until the date set by the father.

R: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption.

G: But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children.

R: When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ—if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

G:  And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”  So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

I thought that these verses might be important as you think on the 4 truths we talked about:

  • You are Adored
  • You are Accepted
  • You are Adopted
  • You are Approved

Like Jesus, you are adored before you have done anything impressive … or anything at all.

You are acceptable to God and your are accepted by God. God is not angry with you or disappointed. You are forgiven and accepted.

We have all been adopted into the the family of God and are all children of God.

You are approved – we know this because God has given you the Spirit of God as a gift (grace) and has gifted you for ministry.

This ties into the post from earlier today.

Today matters because it is the first day of the rest of your life. Today might be the only day you have. Today is full of possibilities. What you do today will set the tone for the rest of your days.

  • You are loved today
  • You were redeemed for today
  • God wants to use you today
  • Somebody needs what you have to offer today
