Sunnyside Community House

We have begun a new partnership with Sunnyside Community House (SCH), the site of the former Sunnyside UMC, at 3520 SE Yamhill St in Portland.  Their mission is to be a sacred space “where all of our neighbors, both the housed and unhoused, are invited to learn, serve, and gather.”  In their 3-story, 38,000 sf building, they have multiple classes, spaces to rent (with the focus on the arts and justice communities), and the heart to form community through service and gathering.  However, because it *is* a beautiful old church building that has much deferred maintenance, they are  grateful for any financial assistance for their numerous building projects.

SCH also needs weekly volunteers for their day shelter, the Hard Times Supper, and assorted chores around the building and grounds, such as  painting, sanding, building, and watering.  Chores may be done on your own schedule.

Another opportunity to provide assistance is with donations for the Houseless Ministries.  SCH provides “radical hospitality,” by offering weekly meals, regular day shelter, clothing exchange, showers, and a warm and friendly place to be, for anybody in need.  Items directly offered to those in need include sleeping bags, tents, back packs, and blankets.

A full list of donations and needs may be found here: Sunnyside Community House list of needs.
