Condolences
We grieve with Lori H and family over the loss of Lori’s mother, and our friend, Alice Scheurman, on Sep 23.  Alice was a member of VHUMC since 1965.  A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, as requested by the family.
Condolences as well to the family of Harlan Collins, a member in the 1970’s.  You may read his obituary here

In Case You MIssed It…
We are excited to welcome Aaron Harper as our new Music MInistry Coordinator. Click here for a letter from Lay Leader, Sara Ross, about the work of the hiring team.

Kimberly Strine is our new Children and Family Ministries Director and will be joining us as soon as she can.  Kimberly emerged as a clear leader during the search, due to her passion for this position.

Many thanks to the members of the Staff Parish Relations Team – Bonnie Kingston, Heidi Olson Jones, and Minda Redburn – and other volunteers – Donna Ward, Sara Ross, Bo Sanders, John Espy, and Bryan Cooper – for their diligent work during the hiring process.  (Apologies to Donna for unintentionally omitting her name last week)

Sermon Series
Pastor Bo’s series, “unApologetic” is based on the UMC Social Principles.  You can read the entire document here or skip to a particular portion in the summary, here

UMC 101
Let’s talk about the United Methodist Church on a global level and its future.  Take our UMC 101 class this Sunday, Oct 3, from 12:00 – 1:30 pm.  Lunch will be provided so please RSVP today at officeVHUMC@gmail.com.

New Mobile App is Here!
Vanco, our eGiving provider, has launched an updated mobile phone app called Vanco Mobile to replace GivePlus Mobile. You can download the Vanco Mobile app for free from the App Store or Google Play. From there, you can make a one-time donation or set up recurring giving right through the app. Just select your fund and amount, enter a payment method and complete the donation. If you have questions, please contact the church office. GivePlus will be going away at the end of the year.  Online giving through our website will not be affected.

Save the Date
Our annual Charge Conference is scheduled for Monday, Nov 1, from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.  All are invited to attend; however, only members may vote.  At Charge Conference, we get the opportunity to review the past year and anticipate the next.  We do some church business as well, such as voting on the pastor’s compensation package.  More details to come.

Wear Orange on Oct 6
Along with the United Methodist Church’s Native American Comprehensive Plan and the International Native American Caucus, United Methodists in the Greater NW Area are encouraged to wear orange and advocate for ‘justice for our children’ on Wednesday, Oct 6. Great Spirit UMC in Portland will be leading an online recognition of this day. Learn more about this event, the reasons behind it, and more about the new Greater Northwest Area Circle of Indigenous Ministries at the www.greaternw.org/circle website.

ImBible Study
We meet Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm, in-person in the Fireside Room, on Facebook, and in our usual Zoom room.  Our topic this session is women in the bible.  We will read every story involving women, using a light-hearted commentary and a serious text.  No book purchase is necessary.  Join us for a rousing and informative discussion!

Tuesdays at the Table
The Connectional Table is hosting a series of discussions with United Methodist theologians and leaders that will help us better understand our faith, our church, ourselves.  The Tuesday series will be on Facebook at 8:00 am beginning Oct 5.  The first hour long session is entitled, “Should I Stay?  Or Should I Go?”  Learn more here
