Message from the District:
Online scammers are at it again. They’re using an email address that looks somewhat believable to impersonate District Superintendent Tim Overton-Harris to get folks to send them gift cards. If you are targeted in this way, do not respond to their emails. If you like, instead report it as spam in your email app. Tim will never ask you to do him a favor and pick up gift cards, or send cash, or anything like that. Neither will the Bishop, or any other Conference or Area staff.
Tuesday, Aug 3, at 6:00 pm. We’ll gather at The Lodge at Cascade Brewing to eat, drink, and discuss this CNN opinion piece: https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/10/opinions/american-evangelicals-protestantism-butler-bass/index.html. Please read and come prepared with your thoughts!
Please hold open the morning of Saturday, August 7, for Tom Benjamin’s memorial service here at the church. Exact time will be announced soon.
All Church Work Party
Saturday, Aug 14, let’s gather at 9:00 am and spiff up the campus. There are plenty of indoor tasks to perform before we re-open the sanctuary, as well as the usual gardening chores. Thanks for your help in maintaining our lovely property!
This non-profit partnership provides low-income children in our area with new backpacks filled with school supplies, winter coats, shoes, socks, and t-shirts for the school year. They are looking for young volunteers to help on distribution day, August 14, 7:30 – 10:30 am or 10:30 am – 1:30 pm. School credit may be available. For more information, visit https://www.grauerbacktoschool.com/take-action
Do you receive excess calendars in the mail? Bring them to church and Donna Ward will take them to Neighborhood House for distribution. Thanks!
Here is the worship schedule for the rest of the summer. All services are at 10:00 am:
- Aug 1: Zoom service for communion Sunday
- Aug 8, 15, 22, 29: Outdoor services in the circle
- Sep 5: Zoom service for communion Sunday
Please note: if the weather isn’t cooperating for an outdoor service, we will move indoors to the Fellowship Hall. Indoors, we ask you to mask up.
August 29 is a Fifth Sunday! We thought it would be fun to have a ministry fair. It’s an opportunity for any church group, such as Habitat for Humanity, Trustees, Talk N Thought, to publicize who they are and what they do. Even more importantly, it’s an opportunity for those who are looking for small group connection to see what’s available. If your group would like space at a table, please email the church office.
Virtual Trip to Kenya
The Oregon-Idaho Conference United Methodist Volunteers in Mission team is hosting a virtual mission trip to the Maua Methodist Hospital in Kenya on Aug. 16, 18 and 19 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. PDT (6 to 7:30 p.m. in Kenya). The pandemic has made traditional mission trips nearly impossible, but it’s “virtually possible” to learn about the services offered, the AIDS Orphan Home project, kitchen gardens, and other community outreach projects. Register here to attend the Kenya Virtual Mission trip.
