Game Night is Back!
Fifth Sunday Game Night is back, baby!  Join us in the (air-conditioned!) Fireside Room from 5:00 – 7:00 pm this Sunday, July 31.  Bryan and Virginia C will bring a variety of games for everyone, from newbies to hardcore fans.  All ages are invited.  You are welcome to bring your favorite game, beverage, and/or snack to share.

Psalms of Summer
Do you have a favorite Psalm? Would you be willing to tell us about it?  This August we want to center our Sunday gatherings around some Psalms. We want to sit with them and meditate on them. Here is how you can be involved:

  • Option 1: record a short video (Pastor Bo can help) telling us what the Psalm means to you.
  • Option 2: read a reflection for us on Sunday morning (online or in-person).
  • Option 3: come to the table and talk with Pastor Bo about it.

You can also combine Option 1 or 2 with Option 3! Email VHUMCpastor@gmail.com to let us know which Sunday works best for you – August 7, 14, 21, or 28.

Celebration of Life
On Saturday, August 6, at 11:00 am, we will gather in the sanctuary and remember Alice Scheurman, who joined VHUMC in 1965.  A reception following the service will be in Fellowship Hall.

Worship Continues at 10:00 am
Worship will start at 10:00 am through Sep 4. Bo’s summer series, “Should Christians be Good Citizens?” concludes this Sunday. You can catch up on YouTube or our website.

Breezeway Book Club
We wrap up our book club on the breezeway on Wednesday, August 10, from 6:30 – 7:15 pm, or you can join us on Zoom, meeting ID 409 087 237.  We will discuss chapter 7 of “The Misunderstood Jew” and celebrate with a BBQ!  ImBible Study will begin the gospel of John on Sep 7th!

Progress!
Thanks to Joy & Scott W and Virginia for getting the first coats of paint and primer on our new exterior stairs.  All of the exterior walls to be painted have been primed.  Now all we need is you!  Let’s get this summer job done next week when the weather cools down.  All the supplies are on the landing that leads out to the prayer garden.  Email the office if you need entry. If you have even an hour to spare, please come and help.

Safe Sanctuaries Training
The Oregon-Idaho Conference Safe Sanctuaries team is providing a 90-minute Zoom training on Tuesday, Aug. 16, starting at 6 p.m. The presentation, called “The Cells Remember”, will look at trauma and how we can respond as a spiritual community. The event is free, but registration is required. Visit the  Conference website to learn more.

Neighborhood Night Out
Hayhurst neighborhood is having their Neighborhood Night Out on Friday, August 12, in Pendleton Park.  The activities include games (some hosted by VHUMC!), food carts, and live music by Iron Prophecy.  5:30 – 8:30 pm.  We are providing off-street parking for those attending.  Contact Bryan C for more info and/or to volunteer to help.

2023 Calendars
Do you receive free calendars in the mail?  Instead of tossing them in the recycling bin, bring them to church.  Donna W takes them to Neighborhood House where they are put to good use.
