Auction 2022:  Dream Big!
Saturday, June 11, 4:30 – 7:30 pm
Our biggest fundraiser of the year is only 30 days away!  The auction will begin online at noon on June 5, so that all may participate, and then transition to an in-person auction.  Online bidders can secure winning the bid by using the Buy Now price, or submitting a proxy bid for the highest price you would pay.  Email Virginia with questions.  Your mission for now:

  • Donate new or like-new items for sale by Thursday, June 2
  • Invite friends or family to attend, virtually or in-person – online bidding begins June 5
  • Make plans to come to our magical, dreamy event on June 11 and bid to win!

Fireside Friends Wish List
Our quilting group just moved into its new home, next door to Pastor Bo’s office.  We need a few items to increase our comfort and productivity.  If you have any of the following to donate, please bring to the church office or contact Elizabeth B:  rolling chairs, bright lamps, space heaters, whiteboards.  And be sure to attend the auction, to see (and bid!) on our first creations.

Breezeway Book Club
Our next meeting on the breezeway is May 18 from 6:30 – 7:15 pm, or you can join us on Zoom, meeting ID 409 087 237.  We are reading and discussing the book, “The Misunderstood Jew” by Amy-Jill Levine. We will actually begin discussing the book this Wednesday. Visit vermonthillsumc.org/summer-reading-group-the-misunderstood-jew/ for the complete schedule.

Twelve Tiny Prayers
During the month of May, there are three prayer stations for you to visit on Sunday mornings between 9:30 and 10:30 am.  At each station – in the chapel, at the picnic tables, and in the courtyard garden – there will be several short prayers on yellow cards.  The cards will change each week; visit one or all of the stations during May.

Volunteers Needed

  • Greeters to make newcomers feel welcome.  Shadow a current greeter to learn the ropes.
  • Projectionists to share the slideshow in the sanctuary and to assist those on Zoom.  Training, about 30 minutes, will be at your convenience the week of May 15 – 23.

Now that we are meeting in person again, both of these positions are very important.  With enough volunteers, you will be scheduled only once per month or so.  Contact the church office for more information.

Portland Pride
We will have a booth at the Portland Pride Waterfront Festival on June 18 and 19!  Anyone who is interested in helping man the booth, please sign up here, or contact  the church office.  We plan to tie-dye matching tees for the event so sign up early!

Camp Hope
Camp Hope, offered every summer at Camp Magruder, is a ministry space for adults with intellectual disabilities to experience God’s love in a camp setting. Campers are given the chance to participate in crafts, music, games, boating, beach time, worship and fellowship. Registration is open now for this year’s camp, which is being held July 6-8. The cost to attend is $350 and scholarships are available for campers who need financial assistance. Campers do not need to be connected to a United Methodist Church to attend. It is critical to have enough staff volunteers to make this a memorable experience. If anyone is interested in volunteering their time for these three days, contact Sue Green at suelundygreen@gmail.com.
