Online Opportunities this Week:

Sunday, 9:15 am:  BrainStorming with Bo (NEW TIME!)
BrainStorming will continue to be online only.  The new time, 9:15-10:00, will allow you to drive to church for worship.

Big Thanks!
Thank you to all who brought (and purchased!) items at Sunday’s bake sale.  You raised $293 for the SW Hope Food and Cash Drive.  That will buy 1172 pounds of food for our neighbors!

Signing Birthday Cards
We have resumed signing birthday cards for those in our church.  The office puts the cards in the entryway, you sign them, and the office mails them.  We have two for this Sunday so look for them!

Filling the Eggs 
We need bags of individually wrapped candy or small toys for the egg hunt on Easter morning.  Please bring them to church this Sunday.  Thanks!

Upcoming Events for your Calendar
This Sunday, April 10  Palm Sunday
Special liturgy and fresh palm branches will make this a special service
Projectionist Training will follow at 11:30.  You are invited to attend if you would like to assist one Sunday a month.
Second Sunday Spiritual Practice at 3:00 pm.  Meet at church to carpool to a nearby labyrinth.
Friday, April 15  Good Friday
Our traditional Tenebrae service returns at 7:00 pm.  This will be a collaborative service with Westside UMC and West Portland UMC.  Contact Bo if you would like to be a reader at this service.
Sunday, April 17  Easter
There will be a pastry breakfast* before the service, beginning at 9:30 (there will be no BrainStorming with Bo).
After worship, the younger children will get to hunt for Easter eggs* in the meditation garden.
Sunday, April 24  Volunteer Appreciation Day
We couldn’t have made it through the last two years without the time and energy that our faithful volunteers put in.  The staff will serve lunch to everyone after the service.  All are invited!

Auction 2022:  Dream Big!
It’s time to start bringing in donations.  If everyone would approach one business (your favorite salon, pub, restaurant, etc), we could double the fun!  Here’s a letter you can use for donation solicitation: donation request.  Even small donations are appreciated for themed baskets. Contact Virginia C to join the planning team, or with any questions.

Save the Date
Woohoo!  We will have a booth at the Portland Pride Waterfront Festival on June 18 and 19!  Anyone who is interested in helping man the booth, please contact Elizabeth Stelle or the church office.  Ideas for inexpensive giveaways are also appreciated.

SW Hope Food Drive
The last event of this year’s campaign is the 5k Run/Walk, this Saturday at Oregon Episcopal School.  Sign up

Tongan Relief
A local UMC, the Lents Tongan Fellowship, is collecting items for those impacted by the earthquake and tsunami in Tonga earlier this year.  They are arranging to send a 40′ shipping container packed with clothing, toilet paper, rice, bandages, hand sanitizer, sugar, cases of water, or anything that would help.  Material donations may be made April 11th to April 15th at any time at Lents Tongan Fellowship, 4600 SE 97th Ave, Portland.. If you would like to contribute financially, please send a check made out to Conference Treasurer with “Tonga Relief” in the memo line to:

Talk N Thought  The ladies of TnT have just begun a new book, The Book of Forgiving: The Fourfold Path for Healing Ourselves and Our World.  Written by Desmond Tutu and his daughter, Mpho, an Anglican priest, it “lays out the simple but profound truths about the significance of forgiveness, how it works, why everyone needs to know how to grant it and receive it, and why granting forgiveness is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves when we have been wronged.”  If you’ve been considering joining TnT, now is the perfect time. They meet every Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room and also online (Zoom room 966 225 0807, Passcode: VHUMC)  For more information, please contact Linda Miller or the church office.
