Staying Connected
There are lots of activities happening with our church community you need to know about. Please take a few moments to review and mark your calendar.

1 ‘Uncontrolling Love of God’ Book Events – On Friday night, Nov 3rd at 7pm and Saturday night Nov 4th at 6:30pm we are hosting a book launch party for ‘Uncontrolling Love of God’ in Fellowship Hall. Pastor Bo wrote one of the chapters for the book and the author, Thomas Jay Oord, will be with us for both events. 2 Trustees Work Party – We are coming to the church Saturday the 4th from 10am – Noon to work on cleaning up the landscaping and do minor maintenance work around the building. All are welcome. Bring your own gloves if you plan to work on the landscaping.

3 Charge Conference – Sunday Nov 5th. Please plan on joining us at West Portland UMC for our annual ‘congregational meeting’ (4729 SW Taylors Ferry Rd). We will meet at 1pm for a short worship experience, a meal, and some important business.

4 Singing for Advent – If you would like to sing with the choir during Advent season, we will be practicing the Christmas anthems between 12pm and 12:30pm starting Nov 17th downstairs in the choir room. Music reading is not required. The choir is planning on singing each Sunday of December and you are welcome to participate in any or all of them. 5 Protestant Reformation Concert – The concert is our first Bach concert of our 13th season on Nov 12th at 2pm at the Rose City Presbyterian Church (NE 44th and Sandy),, featuring Bach’s Reformation Cantata and works by his son-in-law Johann Altnikok, the French Renaissance composer Goudimel and G.F. Handel. Admission is free and you can contact John Chilgren for more information at:

6 Scrip Sunday – The next Scrip Sunday is November 12th, with pick up on November 19th. The holidays are fast arriving, and Scrip provides many gifting ideas: Dinner & Movie, Home Depot and Lowes for home improvement projects, Starbucks cards for thank you gifts, etc. Check out all the categories and do some holiday shopping right here. Remember a percentage is returned to the church for programs and pews.

7 Comedy Night – Saturday Nov 11th at 7pm our UMC district is hosting a night of comedy and community engagement featuring comedian Jeremy McLellan. Admission is free and the event will be at Sunnyside Community House located at 3520 SE Yamhill St. You can find more information on the Facebook page at:

8 Adult Sunday School – H is for Hermeneutics. How do we know what we know about God? Come join us at 9am in the Fireside Room. For more information on the class, be sure to check our website . We hope you will come and be a part of the discussion. Email Pastor Bo with any questions at: .

9 Talk and Thought will meet on Tuesday, November 7th at 1pm in the Fireside Room. We are currently reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. As is our tradition, it will be read and discussed in the group. For more information, contact Linda Miller at or 503-699-8628.

10 Progressive Bible Study – The Gospel of Mark has begun. Every Wednesday at 7pm in the Fireside Room we will be offering a Bible study, with a twist. We hope that you will come to read the text through a 21st century lens. It might look very different than it did before.
