Sunday, Nov 25: Practicing Our Faith, ch 12, “Dying Well”
Here’s a preview for this week:
Here’s a song we’re singing this Sunday, in case you’d like to familiarize yourself with it.
Advent Decorating Plan to stick around after worship this Sunday to help decorate our sanctuary for the Advent season. Crazy good snacks will be served.
Alternative Christmas Don’t know what to get that particular person for Christmas? We’ve got you covered. Sunday, December 2, is Alternative Christmas, where you can make a donation in memory or honor of a loved one and receive a card or ornament to give. Among the organizations will be Habitat for Humanity, Neighborhood House, and UMCOR. Support important ministries *and* finish your shopping list!
Bike the Lights Meet at Portland Int’l Raceway this Tuesday, Nov 27, at 7:00 pm to enjoy the holiday lights from your bicycle! $6 per person; helmet required for those under 17. Food carts and a limited number of loaner bikes available. Decorating you/your bike with festive lights is encouraged; walkers are discouraged (1200 bikes expected!)
All Church Caroling the Neighborhood Let’s share a soup supper and share joy throughout our neighborhood. We’ll meet in Fellowship Hall to eat at 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 1. Christmas spirit is encouraged; actual musical talent is optional. (Insider tip: more caroling on 12/9 after worship)
Parents Night Out Just when it’s needed most! Saturday, December 15, 5:00 – 8:00 pm. $20 per child covers dinner, a movie, snacks, games, etc. Share with every parent you know; they will bless you for it. RSVP please to mailto:familyVHUMC@gmail.com.
VHUMC Travelers In September 2019, our intrepid travelers will visit the Canadian Maritimes: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, with an optional pre-trip to Montreal and Quebec City. Our block of reservations are being held until December 3. Visit www.gct.com/nsc2019, grab a flyer in the lobby, or contact Linda Miller at 503.699.8628 for more information. VHUMC Travelers is a fun group, going on scenic and educational adventures that also generate funds for our church programs. Travelers are church members, friends and relatives. The more the merrier. Hope you will be traveling with us.
Spotlight On… Our web presence! Noticed any visitors in the past year? The vast majority of them found us online through our website (vermonthillsumc.org) or our Facebook page. Want to encourage more visitors? Use social media. “Check in” when you’re at church, post photos on Instagram, share our events or interesting posts. Let your friends see that we’re a vibrant, growing community of people who support each other.
ImBible Study Imbibe (verb): 1. absorb or assimilate (ideas or knowledge) 2. drink alcohol. Join us in the Fireside Room on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm for the first part, and afterwards for the second part at the drinkery. Everyone is welcome as we open our minds and hearts to a new way of looking at scripture.
Talk N Thought The “dynamite” ladies of TnT would love to have you join them every Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room. They are reading “I Am Malala.” Expect great conversation, yummy snacks, and reading/discussing insightful books.
Prayer Chain Please email your prayer requests to PrayerVHUMC@gmail.com. If you do not have access to email, you may call Linda Miller at 503.699.8628. The ‘Prayers of the People’ is crafted each week from this information; please indicate if your prayer is private.
