Sunday, Oct 7: Practicing Our Faith, ch 5, “Saying Yes and Saying No”
This Week’s Preview:
All Church Work Party We need *you* to give the church your time this Saturday morning. We have a growing list of items that need to be repaired or maintained. No particular skills are needed – just a willingness… and perhaps a pair of work gloves. We’ll meet from 10:00 am to noon on Saturday, October 6. See the attached .pdf file for the task list.
Practicing Our Faith If you’d like to read along in the companion book to the sermon series, it is available Sunday in the lobby for $20 (cash or check, please). Only 1/3 through the book — not too late to catch up. Live your faith.
Family Camp Our annual weekend at Arch Cape will be Oct 12 – 14. We rent a huge house and enjoy 48 hours of fellowship, beginning at noon on Friday. Highlights: bonfires on the beach (weather permitting), games and crafts, devotional on Sunday morning, and more fun than you can shake a stick at! Only $50 per family (or $10/person for Saturday only). Contact Elizabeth Brown at familyVHUMC@gmail.com by Tuesday to sign up.
Second Sunday Spiritual Practices On Sunday, October 14, join us at 6:00 pm to explore the labyrinth. We will have an indoor version, borrowed from the district office. At its most basic level, the labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the center of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are. Sound intriguing? Come find out.
Pastor’s Pub Chat At The Lodge at Cascade Brewing, Tuesday, October 16, 7:00 pm. Watch the website and Facebook for this month’s topic. You can expect engaging conversation and good food.
Spaghetti Dinner Tickets are available Sunday at the Welcome table for this yummy event. Only $15 each (ages 10 and under are FREE!) for an evening of feasting and fun on Saturday, October 20, beginning at 5:30 pm. This year we will have door prizes – and you don’t have to be present to win, so (pro tip) buy a chance even if you are unable to attend.
Progressive Bible Study We’re reading the book of Hebrews. We’ve had new folks join us every week, so it’s not too late for you to chime in. In the Fireside Room on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm. You *will* come away with a new way to look at the Bible.
Talk N Thought The “dynamite” ladies of TnT would love to have you join them every Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room. They are reading “My Name is Mahala.” Expect great conversation, yummy snacks, and reading/discussing insightful books.
