Here’s The Plan for 2019, for those who haven’t heard it yet:
And here’s last Sunday’s sermon, Grow Up
Rest in Peace Our hearts are with Ben and Steve Whiteley in the passing of their mother, Elaine Whiteley, on January 4. Elaine joined VHUMC in 1959. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and will be greatly missed. Her celebration of life will be on Saturday, January 19, at 3:00 pm at Vermont Hills.
Habitat for Humanity We will be participating in a build this Saturday, January 12. You can learn more and register at http://vermonthillsumcs.pdxhabitat.volunteerhub.com/
Reconciling United Methodists Gathering Saturday, January 12, from 9:45 am to 2:00 pm at Oregon City UMC. For more information contact Rev. Bonnie Parr Philipson at firstname.lastname@example.org or (503) 547-3822.
Scrip Sunday Buy gift cards and use at full value; the retailers give a portion back to the church. Orders will be taken in Fellowship Hall following worship this Sunday or leave your order in the church office to be processed on Sunday. P.S. Note the new vendors on the order form!
Volunteers Needed The Backpack Ministry is in need of more folks to fill bags and deliver food to Hayhurst Elementary School every Thursday. The food is distributed by the school to food-insecure children. Contact Pam Yuzon at 503.620.8790 or email@example.com if you can help.
Gifts and Talents Workshop Westside UMC is hosting a workshop to help you name and claim your spiritual gifts. There are six sessions, held over the first two weekends in February, which are essential to attend. The cost is only $25 for all materials, snacks and two lunches. More info at https://www.westsidejourney.com/news/
Devotional Books Brian McLaren’s book, “We Make the Road by Walking,” the basis for our sermon series beginning this Sunday, will be available in the lobby for $16 (check or cash only.)
Second Sunday Spiritual Practices This Sunday, January 13, join us for Lectio Divina, an intentional way of experiencing scripture. We’ll meet in the chapel at 6:00 pm.
Sunday School is Back! We begin a new series on “The Big Questions” Sunday at 9:00 am. Our first topic is “Apophatic,” aka how (NOT) to talk of God. A backwards and inside-out discussion will ensue. See you in the Fireside Room!
Pub Chat On Tuesday, January 15, at 7:00 pm, it’s our monthly gathering at The Lodge at Cascade Brewing for a little chat, a little food, a little brew. See you there!
ImBible Study Our feisty, fantastic bible study group will be starting fresh in mid-January. We’ll be looking at Esther and Ruth with our open-minded, inquisitive, and progressive goggles on. Join us on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in the Fireside Room, with an optional second act at the pub afterwards.
Talk N Thought The “dynamite” ladies of TnT would love to have you join them every Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room. Expect great conversation, yummy snacks, and reading/discussing insightful books. They will begin a new book soon, so attend now to help choose.
