Sunday, Sep 23: Practicing Our Faith, ch 3, “Hospitality”

Preview for this Sunday:

Big Thanks!  Thank you all so much for your generous donations of school supplies for Hayhurst. Deanne, the principal, commented “this is the most you’ve given in all the years you’ve been donating.” Quite a statement! Thank you again.

Practicing Our Faith  If you’d like to read along in the companion book to the sermon series, it is available Sunday in the lobby for $20 (cash or check, please).

Fifth Sunday Game Night  On Sunday, Sep 30, from 4 – 6, we’ll be playing some easy, crowd-pleasing games in the Fireside Room.  All are welcome!  Some (real) comments from previous game nights: “Really fun evening “, “Great evening and games! “, “Fun event!! I’m ready for next [time]” Give it a try!

Family Camp  Our annual weekend at Arch Cape will be Oct 12 – 14. We rent a huge house and enjoy 48 hours of fellowship, beginning at noon on Friday.  Highlights: bonfires on the beach (weather permitting), games and crafts, devotional on Sunday morning, and more fun than you can shake a stick at!  Only $50 per family (or $10/person for Saturday only).  See Elizabeth Brown for more info or to sign up.

Help Needed for Spaghetti Dinner on Oct 20 Since “Captain Al” is no longer available for our annual spaghetti dinner, we are looking for cooks (we have the recipe!), servers, and help with setup/cleanup.  Contact Dori Killion about how *you* can help!

Prayer Chain  While Linda is away, please call Mary Turk at 503.292.2357 with your prayer requests.  Or email your requests to PrayerVHUMC@gmail.com. Your request will be added to the ‘Prayers of the People’ or will remain confidential if you prefer.

Coffee Hosts  There is a new sign-up sheet in Fellowship Hall.  Spots available through the end of the year!  Sign up early, sign up often.  Assistance is available for newbies.

Talk N Thought  The “dynamite” ladies of TnT would love to have you join them every Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room.  They are reading “My Name is Mahala.”  Expect great conversation, yummy snacks, and reading/discussing insightful books.

Sunnyside Community House (SCH)  SCH provides “radical hospitality,” by offering weekly meals, regular day shelter, clothing exchange, showers, and a warm and friendly place for anybody in need.  There are numerous ways to help.  See the trunk by the office for material items to donate.  Visit our website for other ways to assist this very worthy cause.
