Staying Connected 6.7.18

Staying Connected

Need two ushers for June 24: one experienced, one newbie who will commit for the fourth Sunday each month. Please contact officeVHUMC@gmail.com

A Sad Note  Some of you may remember Bob Schuberg, who attended VHUMC years ago.  We were recently notified of his passing.  Bob visited us in April with Sue Beardwood; the church office has her contact information if you would like it.

Scrip Sunday is this Sunday, June 10th.  The next scheduled Scrip Sunday is September 9th!!  This church fundraiser does not cost you anything!  Scrip is purchased at the value of the gift card, and the church receives the percentage listed on the form.  PLAN AHEAD!  Purchase only cards that you use or give as gifts for birthdays, graduation, a thank you, anniversaries, etc.  Be creative!!  BRING ORDER FORM AND CHECK.  See Donna and Linda in the Fellowship Hall following Sunday service.  Find the order form here:  SCRIP Form 2018

Graduation Parties  All are invited to the Edens’ and Mitchells’ homes this Sunday, June 10.

Love Unbound As our Sacred Everyday series is  coming to a close, anticipation is building for our July/August series, based on the book, God Unbound.  The author, Elaine Heath, “urges the church to boldly follow the Holy Spirit’s leadership beyond buildings and programs to join what Jesus is doing in the world.”  Get your Kindle or paperback copy here.

Community Rewards Cash  Help VHUMC earn donations just by linking your Rewards Card at fredmeyer.com/communityrewards.  Then every time you use your card when shopping, VHUMC will receive free cash!  You’ll continue to get your reward points, fuel points, and rebates as you currently do.  Search by church name or by our number, 80557.  Thanks!

SW Hope Food Drive Totals  Thank you to all who made this possible: 224,494 pounds of food!  That exceeds the goal of 200,000. To celebrate, you are all cordially invited to a Volunteer Ministry Celebration at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at 11:30 am on Sunday, August 19. We hope you will join us for fun, fellowship, & food.  Great job everyone!

Sacred Everyday  If you haven’t heard, this is becoming a bit of a phenomenon!  The blogs being written by six of our own (Dori, Sara, Katie, John, Charlie, and Bryan) are gaining global attention.  Read along at http://vermonthillsumc.org/category/sacred-everyday/  or follow VHUMC on Facebook.

Prayer Chain  Please email your prayer requests to PrayerVHUMC@gmail.com. If you do not have access to email, you may call Linda Miller at 503.929.6696.  The ‘Prayers of the People’ is crafted each week from this information.

Progressive Bible Study  Easter was a month ago but in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus has just entered the city! If you would like to take a different look at the events of ‘the passion week’, come Wednesday nights at 7pm in the Fireside Room.

Thank you to all those who have volunteered for this Sunday’s worship service:

Ushers:            Bob Bothman, Bryan Cooper

Coffee:             Marian Barney, Dori Killion
