Staying Connected

Trustees Sponsored Work Party  Join us Saturday, Apr 7, at 10am to spruce up, repair, and maintain our wonderful building and grounds!  There’s a job for practically everyone; no previous experience necessary.  If you’d like to help move the remaining mulch, please bring a wheelbarrow and shovel.

Sacred Everyday  Where do you find the divine in your everyday? Is it possible for the ordinary stuff of life to take on sacred meaning? We are going to find out!!  Starting this Sunday, we will begin a 3-month journey, based on the book “Liturgy of the Ordinary”.  If you would like to follow along, the book is available on Amazon and Kindle. For more info: http://vermonthillsumc.org/after-easter-sacred-ordinary/

Spiritual Practices  This Sunday, we will travel to Trinity Episcopal Church for  a Taize healing service.  The service begins at 5:00pm.  Meet here at 4:15pm to carpool.  If you have questions, contact John Espy at john-espy@comcast.net or 503.292.3613.

Table Talks  Columbia District is hosting conversations about a crucial decision facing the United Methodist Church regarding our formal approach to human sexuality.  As members of a reconciling congregation, please try to attend one of the sessions:  April 15 at Portland First UMC, April 22 at Gresham First UMC, or May 6 at Hillsboro UMC.  To register or for more information, go to greaternw.org/table-talks

Adult Sunday School   Sunday School is going to become a workshop and think-tank. Pastor Bo is bringing five of his favorite ideas, to see how they might look at VHUMC.  First up is “ChurchNext”.  Join us in the Fireside Room at 9am to explore where church is headed.

Tulip Festival  All are invited to join the youth on Sunday, April 15, as they carpool to Woodburn, OR to see 40 acres of beautiful flowers.  The cost is $20 per car; leaving the church at 1pm.  Bring a sack lunch, water, and mud boots.  RSVP to Elizabeth Brown at monkey23_97219@yahoo.com

Pub Chat  A lively discussion on the benefits and pitfalls of Wikipedia!  Tuesday, April 17, 7pm at The Lodge at Cascade Brewing.  Read the article at https://www.wired.com/story/youtube-wikipedia-content-moderation-internet/

Save the Date!  Our Annual Auction will be held on April 28, beginning at 5:30pm.  Our goal is for everyone to donate something — a handcrafted item, a service, a hosted event, items of all kinds, or even gift cards from our Scrip Program.  The auction is our biggest fundraiser of the year — because of you!  Questions about a donation or how you can assist?  Mark and Janet Zimmerdahl can help!  Contact them at  mzimmerdahl@comcast.net or 503.244.8670.  Mark your calendars and invite your friends!

Emergency Contact and Volunteer Skills Inventory  The Connexions Team is gathering   information all about you! Please take the time to tell us how we can help you in an emergency, and how you can help your church family.  Forms are available on the Welcome table.

Prayer Chain – please be aware that Linda Miller will be unavailable to take prayer requests, April 1—19.  Please email your requests to PrayerVHUMC@gmail.com. If you do not have access to email, you may call Jan Espy at 503-522-2787.  The ‘prayers of the people’ is crafted each week from this information.

SW Hope Food Drive  There is only one week remaining to donate to our friends at Neighborhood House.  For every $1 donated, 4 pounds of nutritious food can be purchased.

Please make donations through the church offering or online giving (mark ‘Food Drive’ in the memo) and we will collect the donations and send them over April 15. For more information, please visit the website:  http://www.nhpdx.org/SWHope/SWHope.html

Online Giving  Our website now has a page with simple instructions and user links for your convenience at: http://vermonthillsumc.org/onlinegiving/ . It is easy to use and very secure.

Progressive Bible Study  This isn’t your father’s bible study!  You may have read the gospel of Mark several times but this hour will open you up to something new and thought-provoking.  Every Wednesday night at 7pm in the Fireside Room.  Join us and explore the Bible. It might look very different than it did before.
