Christmas Cards  Please come a little early this Sunday to sign Christmas cards for our home-bound members and those we’ve been missing.  The cards will be on a round table in the entryway. (Remember, there’s no Sunday School this month.)

Rest in Peace  Our beloved Anne Begg passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 9, surrounded by her family. Please pray for Sky and Jack during this time.

Volunteer Needed  We need someone to take our donations to Sunnyside Community House, 3520 SE Yamhill St.  It’s getting colder and they need these warm items this week. Contact the church office if you have any questions.

Christmas in Dairyville  A Christmas tradition!  We’ll all head to Alpenrose Dairy after coffee time on Sunday to enjoy the simpler joys of the season.  Admission is free but donations of new unwrapped toys and/or canned foods are appreciated.

Christmas Pops Concert  First UMC in Portland is hosting world-renowned organist Jonas Nordwall and their choir’s professional vocalists this Sunday at 3:00 pm.  An offering will be taken to provide assistance to victims of the devastating fires in California through UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee On Relief.

Blue Christmas Service  West Portland UMC is offering a service for those whose hearts are heavy this holiday season.  Friday, December 21, 7:00 pm at 4729 SW Taylors Ferry Rd.

ZooLights  Saturday, December 22, we’ll meet at the Oregon Zoo for this frosty, furry event!  Prices range from $13-18 (2 and under are free); discount of $5 with proof of Trimet transit; zoo members are free. Questions?  Contact Elizabeth Brown at familyVHUMC@gmail.com.

Candlelight Service  Please join us on Sunday, December 23, at 6:00 pm for our traditional candlelight service.  This will be a beautiful, contemplative time as we draw our hearts closer to God and reflect on the miracle of Jesus’ birth.

Fifth Sunday Game Night  The perfect antidote for cabin fever!  Let’s gather and play some fun card and board games. Sunday, December 30, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.  Bring a snack to share if you like.  Location is here at church; exact room TBA.

Spotlight On…  “We Make the Road by Walking”  This book by Brian McLaren is providing the basis for a year-long devotional study — and our new sermon series beginning in January. Bishop Elaine Stanovsky is encouraging United Methodists all across the Greater NW area to “cross over” together as we prepare for the special conference in February.  Hope you’ll add this book to your Christmas wish list; available online and as an e-book.  You may also sign up to receive weekly emails to enhance your study at greaternw.org/crossover.

ImBible Study  Imbibe (verb): 1. absorb or assimilate (ideas or knowledge) 2. drink alcohol. Join us in the Fireside Room on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm for the first part, and afterwards for the second part at the drinkery.  Everyone is welcome as we open our minds and hearts to a new way of looking at scripture.

Talk N Thought  The “dynamite” ladies of TnT would love to have you join them every Tuesday at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room.  They are reading “I Am Malala.”  Expect great conversation, yummy snacks, and reading/discussing insightful books.

Prayer Chain  Please email your prayer requests to PrayerVHUMC@gmail.com. If you do not have access to email, you may call Linda Miller at 503.699.8628.  The ‘Prayers of the People’ is crafted each week from this information; please indicate if your prayer is private.
