Safe Harbor  As new restrictions loom against LGBTQ+ persons in The United Methodist Church, the five active bishops in the Western Jurisdiction (region of the United States) are offering a Safe Harbor to LGBTQ+ clergy and are urging bishops and other United Methodists to join them.
“We intend to provide safe harbor for clergy under our care who may be at risk under the new provisions, prohibitions, and punishments,” the bishops said. “We do not believe that The United Methodist Church has the authority or the power to impose limits on the movement of God’s Holy Spirit in the lives of God’s beloved LGBTQ+ children.”  To read and show support for the bishops’ declaration, click here.

All Church Work Party  This Saturday, November 9, we’ll be “raking in the leaves, raking in the leaves, we shall coming rejoicing, raking in the leaves.”  (If you’re too young to get this pun, please keep it to yourself.)  Bring rakes, garden carts, tarps – whatever you use to gather and move leaves.  We’ll begin at 10:00 am.

Town Hall Meeting  We’re doing our own mini-version of the traditional Charge Conference.  A time to review 2019 and get excited about 2020.  This Sunday, November 10, in the sanctuary following worship.  Please plan to attend.

Second Sunday Spiritual Practices  Sunday, November 10, at 6:00 pm is the Prayer for Health and Wholeness service in the sanctuary.  All are welcome!

The Stitchuation  Our new stitching group meets again on Monday, Nov 11, at 6:00 pm in the Fireside Room.  Bring your choice of stitchery, a friend, and snack to share if desired.

Admin for a Day (or Two)  If you’re available to man the church office when Virginia is on vacation, please email the church office.  We’d like coverage from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm on Nov 21, 22, and 28 but even a couple of hours will help!  Job description includes answering the phone and gathering the mail.

Pub Chat  Tuesday, Nov 19, at 6:00 pm at The Lodge at Cascade Brewing, 7424 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. This month’s topic coming soon to our website.

Alternative Christmas  Have any friends or relatives that are hard to buy for?  During coffee time on Dec 1, you have the opportunity to honor your loved ones with a gift to a non-profit such as Heifer International.  Decrease the clutter and increase the compassion.

Sanders’ Open House  All are invited to Pastor Bo and CJ’s new home.  Drop by anytime between noon and 2:00 pm on Sunday, Dec 15.  Their address is available at church in the bulletin and winter newsletter (to be published soon), or by emailing the church office.

Bags Needed  Brown paper bags with handles are needed for our backpack ministry.  So are people.  You would work about two hours a month.  If interested, please contact Barbara Wagner or Dori Killion for more information.

Giving by Text  We have a new toll-free number for our safe and secure option to give by text: 844-958-1124.  You simply text the dollar amount to that number.  You will receive a link to provide your billing information.

ImBible Study Join us this Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the Fireside Room for the book of Job.  How do we respond to suffering?

Fred Meyer Community Rewards  If you shop at Freddy’s, please make sure to link your FM Rewards card with Vermont Hills United Methodist Church (code SY323) and the church will receive a percentage of all your purchases.  It costs you nothing and you still receive all your usual benefits.

Bethlehem House of Bread  Their mission is to provide not only food but also clothing and household essentials, such as baby formula, diapers, and personal hygiene products, for those going through challenging times.  Please donate as you are able to the “treasure box” by the church office.  Thank you!

Talk N Thought  The “dynamite” ladies of TnT are reading “The Road to Little Dribbling” by Bill Bryson.  Join them on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm in the Fireside Room.  There’s always great conversation, snacks, and reading/discussing insightful books.

Prayer Chain  Email your prayer requests to PrayerVHUMC@gmail.com. If you do not have access to email, you may call Linda Miller at 503.929.6696. The ‘Prayers of the People’ is crafted weekly from this information; please indicate if your prayer is private.
