1 Harvest Party Game Night – Sunday Oct 29th from 4-6pm in Fellowship Hall. The Youth Group will be hosting a Harvest themed Game Night. Games, Food and Fun for all ages! Donations support the Youth Group Mission Trip Summer ’18. Yahtzee, Kerplunk, Tick-Tac-Toe-Toss, Farkle, Horse Racing, Scrabble and many more. All games are oversized!!! 2 Protestant Reformation Concert – An upcoming concert dealing with Martin Luther, who began the Protestant Reformation 500 years ago this year! The concert is our first Bach concert of our 13th season on Nov 12th at 2pm at the Rose City Presbyterian Church (NE 44th and Sandy), bachcantatachoir.org, featuring Bach’s Reformation Cantata and works by his son-in-law Johann Altnikok, the French Renaissance composer Goudimel and G.F. 3 ‘Uncontrolling Love of God’ Book Events – On Friday night, Nov 3rd at 7pm and Saturday night Nov 4th at 6:30pm we are hosting a book launch party for ‘Uncontrolling Love of God’ in Fellowship Hall. Pastor Bo wrote one of the chapters for the book and the author, Thomas Jay Oord, will be with us for both events. 4 Charge Conference – Sunday Nov 5th. Please plan on joining us at West Portland UMC for our annual ‘congregational meeting’ (4729 SW Taylors Ferry Rd). We will meet at 1pm for a short worship experience, a meal, and some important business.

5 Comedy Night – Saturday Nov 11th at 7pm our UMC district is hosting a night of comedy and community engagement featuring comedian Jeremy McLellan. 6 Singing for Advent – If you would like to sing with the choir during Advent season, we will be practicing the Christmas anthems between 12pm and 12:30pm starting Nov 17th downstairs in the choir room. Music reading is not required. The choir is planning on singing each Sunday of December and you are welcome to participate in any or all of them. 7 Adult Sunday School – G is for Genre. How do we know what we know about God? Come join us at 9am in the Fireside Room. 8 Talk and Thought will meet on Tuesday, October 29th at 1pm in the Fireside Room. We are currently reading Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. As is our tradition, it will be read and discussed in the group. For more information, contact Linda Miller at raylindamiller@comcast.net or 503-699-8628.

9 Progressive Bible Study – The Gospel of Mark begins Nov 1st. Every Wednesday at 7pm in the Fireside Room we will be offering a Bible study, with a twist. Our hope is for a different way of reading the Bible that accounts for genre and takes seriously both the historic understanding of the text as well as its contemporary implications. We hope that you will come to this exercise with an open mind, a sincere heart, and a commitment to read the text through a 21st century lens. It might look very different than it did before.
